About Liz Higley, In-Person and Telehealth Clinician

Liz is a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and her master’s in mental health counseling from the University of Phoenix. Liz has worked in various community and substance use counseling centers in Las Vegas, Nevada, and most recently for the past 3 years in Tooele County. Through her work and lived experience, she has developed a passion for working with women in their various stages of life and development. Liz is trained in perinatal mood disorders and advanced perinatal mental health psychotherapy. Liz is passionate about helping women feel supported and heard through difficulties with infertility, birth/hospital trauma and loss, hormone imbalances, parenting, and the challenges associated with the phases of a woman’s life. Liz and her husband, 10-year-old triplets, and 3 cats live locally in Tooele County.

Liz’s approach to counseling is centered around guiding her clients in the direction they determine for themselves. She believes that we often only need to be truly heard and given a safe place to express our thoughts and feelings in order to find acceptance within ourselves and our experiences.

Therapeutic Journey

My approach to therapy is centered around a client finding and accepting their relationship with their own thoughts and feelings. I believe it is important to understand our values, and my goal is to help clients live their lives in a way that is in line with those values.

Passion In Trauma

As a mother of premature triplets, I have recovered from birth and NICU-related trauma. Through my experiences, I have developed a passion for helping others recover and find post-traumatic growth. I have a deep interest in allowing clients to fully explain and understand what happened to them so they can confidently move forward as a healed and stronger individual.

Passion In Postpartum Anxiety/Depression

Having a child is such a joyful opportunity; yet because it is, there is often so much pressure to feel a particular way. Postpartum symptoms affect 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 MEN. Learning that postpartum refers to a time frame, not necessarily specific to a gender, has been eye-opening, and I am passionate about helping parents have the ability to show up for themselves and the children they worked so hard for. Lack of sleep, changes in routine, and concern for their new child are just some of the triggers that can make being a new parent difficult. I am focused on helping families understand this new phase and create new habits that support their new stage of life.

Opinions On Politics/Religion

I don’t believe we need to agree on politics or religion, but I will support you in exploring those topics as they relate to your sense of community, belonging, and vulnerability.

Medications

I believe that medication can be helpful in one’s therapeutic journey, but I don’t think we should take medications just to take them. Meaning, whatever we are prescribed should be helping us. If it isn’t, we should look into other options within medications and other alternative therapies.

Liz's Favorite Quote by Carl Rogers

“We cannot change; we cannot move away from what we are until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed.”
