Guiding You Towards Wellness: Recovery Therapy

The clinical team at Precipice Counseling is given time each day to improve their skills, identify new skills, collaborate with other professionals, and use their expertise to better serve you in your recovery journey. In essence, using proven treatments as a foundation, Precipice Counseling may "create" something unique to serve you and assist towards recovery.

Supporting Healing: Our Recovery Services

Precipice Counseling takes a unique approach to therapeutic services. We offer the same type of services as any other mental health practice, including evaluation/assessment, individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy. However, just as different general contractors may take a different approach to remodel your home, each therapist will take a different approach to therapy. Neither is better or worse, but the task is to find what works for you.

Proven Treatments

There are a lot of proven treatments to address mental and emotional challenges, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mind-Body Bridging (MBB), Dielectric Behavioral Therapy (DBT). As the recovery specialist, Precipice Counseling understands people may gain some sense of recovery from any or all these treatments. We seek to find and use the treatment that will get you the longest and most fulfilled future in recovery, without limiting to short-term solutions.

Unique Approaches

The "Proven Treatments" mentioned previously are discovered by research in universities during clinical trials with people willing to be studied. The important thing to know is what is "proven" by research is where a treatment shows “roughly” 80% of participants receive benefit from the service. On one hand, it is exciting to know the majority experience improvement. On the other hand, it means “roughly” 20% received less than ideal responses to the treatment. What works for you may not work for someone else, and we know this. Our goal is to find what would work for those 20%.

One of the strengths of Precipice Counseling is our clinicians’ efforts and focus on advancement and improvement. The 20% of unresponsiveness to "proven" treatments may not fit snugly in a different proven treatment.

Your Path to Recovery Includes a Step-By-Step Process

 Step 1: The Past

Some of the obvious things you know are the answers to the following: What issues are causing you to seek therapy? What have you already tried that either helped or didn't help? What things have we learned from our past that help/hinder any change? These answers have probably been talked about with everyone within your team.

Step 2: The Present

Consider the last blood panel you had pulled with your primary care. Did it include vitamin D, testosterone, thyroid, cholesterol, and B vitamins? These results are very telling in how your mind interprets and processes the world around you, but also the impact nutrition and exercise have had on your mental health. Do you already know areas to improve in this area? What actions can you take today to change any of them? How can a clinician support you in reducing these barriers?

 Step 3: Reclaim Today

Consider how the past has governed you thus far and how you think it impacts your present. Most people view the past similarly to a tornado or a funnel. The gravity of the past comes to a single moment, which is this moment.

Today, you get to change that. The reality of time and life is the opposite of a funnel or tornado. The past being fixed and complete means it is the single line of unchangeability that enters at the small end of the funnel. The present and future are the much wider and unrestricted ends of the funnel and can be anything you can imagine!

Step 4: Recovery

Recovery is a simple term, which means "the action or process of regaining possession or control of something stolen or lost." Many times, we can get stuck in feeling wronged and want retribution for the things that happened to us. True recovery is acknowledging what we still have and regaining possession of it. Your past has been bad enough; join Precipice Counseling to regain possession of your present today.
